Soquel–San Jose Road Fuels Reduction Project
October 10 2026 Update
A major roadside wildfire-safety project is getting underway along Soquel–San Jose Road, and property owners adjacent to the road are encouraged to submit their right-of-entry paperwork as soon as possible, ideally by the end of October.
According to information shared at the recent community meeting, work will begin near the Summit and move down the road. Property-owner outreach will continue as the project progresses, but getting paperwork submitted now will help crews plan and schedule the work.
About the Project
The Fire Safe Council of Santa Cruz County is coordinating this grant-funded project to reduce hazardous roadside vegetation, improve emergency vehicle access, and help make Soquel–San Jose Road a safer evacuation route.
There is no cost to participating property owners.
Depending on conditions, crews will thin brush, prune low branches, remove hazardous vegetation, and improve roadside clearance. Treatment may extend approximately 15–100 feet from the road edge, including portions of private property.
Property Owners: Your Participation Matters!
Because some of the planned work extends onto private property, the Fire Safe Council needs written permission before crews can proceed.
If you own property along Old San Jose Road, please take a few minutes to:
- Check the project and parcel maps to see whether your property is included.
- Download and complete the right-of-entry permit.
- Submit your paperwork to the Fire Safe Council.
Signing the permit does not authorize unrestricted clearing. Property owners can discuss the proposed work and any concerns with the project team before treatment begins.
